Hi, I have a itach wifi flex that when the power fails (blackouts), in order for it to work again, I have to disconnect the power supply and connect again. It seems it loses connection, is there a way to fix this? Does this happens to the Ethernet itach? Thanks for your response,

Quirilio Vilorio III Thank you for your response. I will like to try to setup an static ip to the itch flex. I don't see where, there is nothing besides changing names in the network tab of the browser config. Can you tell me how to set this up?

Quirilio Vilorio III Nevermind I just found how. Thanks anyways.

Quirilio Vilorio III Hi,
Assigning an static ip did not work, after another power failure it went to a limbo again, ihelp could not find the device. I had to unplug and plug the power supply in order for it to be seen in the network. Please consider a script for your next firmware version, so it could restart itself after a power failure. Any more ideas?

Josh Sherman Is your unit running the current version of the Flex firmware? The unit's firmware should end with -07 if it is fully up to date.
-
Quirilio Vilorio III Yes it is.

Quirilio Vilorio III Hi, resolving this issue will benefit a great deal of customers who from time to time suffer from power failures. Non-volatile EEPROM memory should be implemented. Please try and experiment your way, with a power strip.
-
Josh Sherman The settings of our units are stored in nonvolatile memory, which is why you are able to power down the unit and power it back up and have it reconnect to the network. It almost sounds as though there is a median power condition you are seeing where the unit's wireless module may not be initializing properly, requiring removal of power before it will reinitialize properly. Is your unit on a conditioned power source to handle spikes and brownout scenarios that are likely occurring when power is lost? Have you attempted to connect this unit to a different power source (like switching it to USB from wall power or vice versa) to see if you continue to see the same problem?

Quirilio Vilorio III Thank you very much your response. The unit is actually connected to a power strip/ surge protector. Do you think is best to connected to the wall outlet instead?. Do not know really what you mean "switching USB from wall power or viceversa", please explain. -

Joe Schofield I have recently purchased my first iTach Flex. Setup was simple and I've integrated it into custom home automation software. However, I'm having the same problem as Quirilio. I also have version 710-2000-07.
I noticed yesterday after the power went out a few times (which is unusual, but we are having storms), that there was a very fast blinking LED. Without touching it, I went to my custom software and tried to connect to the static IP address--no luck. I tried to ping the static IP address--no response. I tried the discovery method and did not see any beacon after waiting two minutes. This thing was dead to the network.
After unplugging and replugging this unit, the slow blink of happiness returned and I could contact it over the network. I also have it plugged into a power strip. I was concerened, but not too concerned. Then, this morning I noticed the fast blinking again. Same problem, power off then on resolved it.
My wifi router and critical path to the internet is backed up by a UPS. So, even when the power was out yesterday, my router was providing me a connection to a few units on my network as well as connection to the internet thorugh my wireless backup internet provider.
I can tell you this from developing software to control WiFi conneccted devices. You have to assume anything and everything will go wrong. If you don't have an automatic reboot built into your SW after a period of time, then you need to add one. (Hopefully, this can be solved by a SW upgrade and the units are not limited by a HW power issue requiring removing the power.) I don't know if you have the ability to tell time on the iTach Flex, but you do know when it is in quick flash mode and has no IP address. And, you can count the number of flashes and know when about 5 minutes or so have passed. Then reset this unit and increment a new reboot counter and reason in NVM.
I'm concerned because I ordered more of these units. I will not be ordering any more until this has been resolved. Placing each one behind a remotely controlable "appliance" switch to automate the power cycle is too costly for this solution.

Austin Kurtz Count me as a third user who is experiencing the endless blinking lights of death on iTach Flex WiFi units. Purchased four of these units a few days ago. Seemingly randomly they will drop into a completely unresponsive forever-blinking mode -- not all at the same time or at predicable intervals. For mine it doesn't take a power outage to screw them up, though I did have a brief outage today that rendered two of the four temporarily inoperable. I have tried them connected to wall power with their included adapter and also plugged into a powered (and known working) USB hub -- doesn't make a difference. One is configured for IR and the other three for serial -- and all have failed repeatedly. I have to manually power cycle each unit to get it functioning again. Very frustrating. Sounds like a firmware bug or a bad batch of hardware.

Quirilio Vilorio III Hi Josh, I would certainly want to know if this issue is exclusive for the Iflex Wifi or the other Itachs (Flex ethernet, Original Itach Wifi/Ethernet) also suffer from this problem. Please be so kind to test the other iTachs ( you can recreate the case with a power strip, just switch it off then on) because I need to buy a couple more but want to make sure if the function the same way as the Flex Wifi in a power failure situation. Thanks,
-
yeswork Add me to the list.
I have both a WF2IR and Flex at the same location, both connecting to same wifi network.
After a power failure/ power off - WF2IR reconnects OK, I need to power cycle (again) the Flex to reconnect.
Flex seems to have a problem with wifi, that WF2IR does not.

Josh Sherman We have characterized this issue as an interaction bug with a small population of routers and it looks as though we will be releasing a fix for it in the upcoming firmware release. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes to you all. I will post on this thread as soon as we have done the release so that you can update your units and confirm or deny whether the fix resolves what you are seeing.
As a note, if you are having these issues please include the model of router you are using as well as the security type, as these details will help us to make sure that we are properly reproducing and fixing the issues that you are seeing.

yeswork My router is Asus RT N66U - this router has worked well with wireless - Ipad, Tivo (yes wireless), PC laptops of various make, android phones, squeezebox music players, etc.
-
Quirilio Vilorio III Mine is an Asus RT N16 with DD-WRT, WPA 2 Personal Security protocol. And I experience the same issue as yeswork. Hope you can fix this.
-
Austin Kurtz I've already been in contact with support about this, but just for the record... Asus RT-AC66U with WPA2.

Joe Schofield I have the AirPort Extreme 5th gen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme -
someuser Hi,
Still broken.
My wifi Flex with 710-XXXX-09 firmware still randomly "falls off" my wifi network (Asus RT N66U and WPA2). My WF2IR works OK.
Loss of power to my Flex; sometimes it will find its way back onto the network, sometimes it takes a re-cold boot to reconnect.
This thread was never updated by Global Cache to point out the new firmware created to address the problem listed in this thread.
I am disappointed - still broken, and Global Cache has not closed-the-loop on this thread.

Eric Knauer Hello,
I have two itach flex devices, one wifi and one wired. I am using roomie, a linksys e1000 router, and have the wifi device about 2 feet from the router. My wired device works fine. My wifi device becomes unreponsive daily. Initially I thought this was just from a power outage but that is not the case. I updated the firmware on the wifi device with no improvement if I send a command 25 times I may get one to go thru. When I power cycle the itach it then works perfectly again. It is plugged into an apc ups on the non battery back up side. Very frustrating.

someuser Hi,
I second Eric's comments. My Flex "falls off" my wifi, even without power outage.
1) Flex with 710-XXXX-09 - loses wifi connectivity
2) WF2IR works reliably in same location
3) Global Tech support - seem unaware
Yikes!

Austin Kurtz Just wanted to post a quick update since my issue seems to be resolved. (I hope I'm not jinxing myself by posting this.) The latest Flex firmware by itself did not fix my problem, BUT...
If any of you have been using the Roomie Remote app to send commands to your Flex units, try upgrading to the new 2.0.0 (or later) version. Since I upgraded, my units (with the latest firmware) have been rock solid and have not failed once in the last eight days, where previously they'd always fail within an hour. It seems highly unlikely that RR could have been the cause of my problem since previously my Flexes would fail without RR even running. But this the only change I've made to my setup recently, and the problem was resolved immediately after the upgrade. Just reporting the facts.

Eric Knauer I have been trying to hold off upgrading to roomie 2.0. Last weekend I wiped an iPad to get rid of the "other" hogging memory. When I restored it from the backup roomie did not come back on the iPad so I redownloded it. This was roomie 2.0 and was unstable. I think the roomie update to 2.0.1 may have fixed the instability. I have not updated the iPad to iOS 7 yet. However, for me the itach is not responding to roomie 2. I am able to access the itach via its ip address. I power cycled the itach about 4 hours ago and already it is not responding. Eric -
Josh Sherman Just wanted to get on here and let everyone on the thread know: although the fix that was released previously did address some of the disconnect related issues, not all were isolated to one bug. We are working currently on another revision of the Flex firmware and will be releasing it in the near future (in the range of two weeks as per our engineering team) that we hope testing will confirm has resolved the rest of the WiFi disconnect issues. We apologize for the frustration and request that any of you who would like to discuss options in terms of timing or a swap for the Ethernet version Flex or WiFi version iTach, we would be glad to do what we can to alleviate any frustration you are having.

Andrew G I am still having issues, has the firmware been updated?
-
Les I have purchase 50 iTach Flex over the past 4 months and 20% of these suffer from the rapidly flashing light, add this to software issues and it makes for a very frustrating time. Both the software developers and the Global Cache need to be more precise with their acknowledgements and times lines with issues. Both of these groups are not on the coal face and we are the meat in the sandwich, so to speak. between unacknowledged known issues, software shortfalls and our customers who we are trying to retain and keep happy. Its easier to retain a customer by being more accurate with the information that flows rather than to loose them and find new customers.

Peter White Have the updated firmware XXXX10 but find that one of mine displays a solid green light after a given period of time and subsequently drops off the network. I can pull out the power and reattach after which it will reset and connect to the LAN. Not keen on doing this every day.
Currently use iRule with Nexus 7. No issues with 3 other Flex's
Comments from support not helpful. Still trying.
