I am new to this product. Is it possible to communicate with the device through web service OR through http post request? Since I am developing a software which aims at wirelessly controlling the home appliances with IR command accepted, I would like to know if I am able to communicate with iTach WiFi2IR just like calling third party API to access the resources. Hope I can hear replies!

Josh Sherman Currently, we have no mechanism for HTTP based control of our units. The only mechanism for control at this point is via telnet over TCP port 4998.

Chan K M Thanks for your reply! If via telnet, what kind of control can I command?

Josh Sherman All configuration, poll, and IR type commands are issued over telnet. Essentially all unit functions can be controlled over the command port (4998).

Chan K M Thanks a lot! Now I have another question. Is this device built in IR code/database which covers most of the existing home appliances?

Josh Sherman Technically, we do not have an IR database in our products. With that being said, many software providers have opted to supply a database of IR commands in their software solution.

Chan K M Thanks for your reply. Telnet seems not so secure. Can the device be connected by SSH or through tunneling? As for IR database and software providers, actually we have a set-box for signal processing. Is your device open for software development such as flashing the firmware or installing an embedded Linux? Also, rather than Wifi2IR product item, does your company provide chipsets for OEM purpose? Can I contact you by email?

Josh Sherman Sadly, the only current communications mechanism is telnet. As such our units are incapable of SSH connections. There are multiple definitions of tunneling, and so long as you have the correct port forwarding in place, units can be reached (by way of what some would call a tunnel) from outside the network, but this still occurs over telnet. Technically, our hardware does not have the horsepower to run an operating system. We do have an OEM program, and we will gladly communicate with you directly.
