Control Tower Email format and how to use it

The codeset and code emails from Control Tower provide the code name, the IR code, in both Global Cache and Pronto Hex formats, as well as any toggle or alternate versions of the codes. This information can all be needed or useful depending on the application, or control system used. This article clarifies what each portion of the codeset and code emails does and when to use each portion.

Note: Some control systems (especially those that integrate with the Control Tower database) allow for importing codes in the "Control Tower" formats. This means you can usually copy and paste the entire body of either the codeset or code email.

Example codeset email:

function, code1, hexcode1, code2, hexcode2

"POWER TOGGLE","sendir,1:1,1,38000,1,1,170,170,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,20,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,1798","0000 006D 0000 0022 00AA 00AA 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0706",,

code2:

hex code2:

function

The function field is the name of the IR code. This names and describes what action the code performs such as "Power Toggle". When importing codes/codesets into a control system there will usually be a spot to provide this inforamtion.

The function field in the above examples contains:

POWER TOGGLE

code1

The code1 field is the IR code in Global Cache format. This is what gets sent to the device. This is the portion of the email that you will use when sending via a TCP client or testing IR codes in iLearn or iTest.

Note: When sending via raw TCP client, a carriage return will need to be added to the end of the command as a terminator.

The code 1 field in the above examples contains:

sendir,1:1,1,38000,1,1,170,170,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,20,63,20,20,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,63,20,1798

hexcode1 or hex code1:

This is the same code as in code1, but converted to the Pronto Hex format. Some control systems have drivers that require the pronto hex format. This is internally converted back to the Global Cache format by the driver when sending to our devices.

The hexcode 1 or hex code1 fields in the above examples contain:

0000 006D 0000 0022 00AA 00AA 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 0014 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 003F 0014 0706

code2:

The code2 field is an alternate or toggle version of the IR code (in global caché format). In most instances this field can be ignored. However, in rare cases where toggle bits are enforced then the control system will need to alternate between sending code1 and code2 for the toggle requirement to be satisfied.

An alternative code does not exist for the above examples so the code2 field is blank.

hexcode2 or hex code 2:

This is the Pronto Hex format conversion of the code2 code.

An alternative code does not exist for the above examples so the hexcode2 and hex code 2 fields are blank.
