I have two identical iTach wifi / ir units in a remote location (across the Internet) controlling two TV's in two different rooms, both units have pegged local IP's (one at .201 and the other at .202). I have successfully been able to configure the router to port forward port 4998 to either device. However I can forward to only one device at a time (.201 or .202). I would like to change the default port on one of the devices to something other than 4998 so that I can port forward to both devices at the same time. I assume there's a way to do this during setup of the device, but is it documented?

Broc Atkinson In the case that you have multiple units on the network, you will want to use a setting called virtual server, which may or may not be available on the router you have. This setting allows you to forward a port from a unit to a different network port. Unless you are able to use virtual server, you will not be able to differentiate between the units on the network due to the fact that they all use the same port for network communications.

Alexandre Amiel Cunha I think GLOBAL CACHE must to IMPROVE it. We need to choose port like we choose ip setting... I'm leaving global cache because this "problem"... I dont want to buy another router just to this... All my home is apple, using timecapsule, 3airport express, iPad as remote control with iRule, etc... I have 5 WF2IR... But, really this port "problem" is terrible... -
Josh Sherman We are sorry to hear that you are unable to do what you intend with our hardware within your environment and apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. We value your input, and have added your request to our development request listing, which is referenced when firmware revisions are made as well as when new products are being developed.

Thomas Allraum Has this changed with any of the new firmwares? I am particularly looking at the new itach flex units and i wonder if this will work on those units? If not, do you have a link to a list of routers that has the virtual server functionality and also instructions as to how this will generically have to be set up to work? -
Diego Pienovi Please help on this! We really need to have the option of changing port 4998. Is there a new firmware that takes care of this issue?
We need to be able to control multiple Itach in the same local network remotely.
Thanks for your help.

Diego Pienovi If changing port 4998 is not possible yet, please provide a list of routers with the virtual server functionality and the instructions on how to work this problem out.
thanks,
Diego.

Support Hello.
I guess with Airport Extreme or Time Capsule you can do it.
With a global IP, you can open two ports, 50000 adn 50001 in the airport extreme or time capsule. Every port you can redirect to one of the iTach.
From outside, the first iTach is GLOBAL_IP:50000 and the second one is GLOBAL_IP:50001
Your cable modem must be in bridge mode, so the Airport can manage all connections..
See the pictures.

Josh Sherman The setting you are talking about is the virtual server setting. We are sorry to say that we don't have a list of routers with this capability, but it should be listed on the specifications of any router that you look into purchasing if that router does support this function.

Chris Melis Any progress in this matter?
It seems to be so easy to be done. Why the delay?
This problem cancel my plans about bying 5 pieces of iTach IP2IR since the access will be remotely.

Chris Melis I have just solved the problem. Most of the routers can receive information to one port and forward it to another port of a specific ip. So i have program my openremote remote control to send the commands to port ex. 10001 and the router to forward it to ip 192.168.1.11/port 4998 of my 1st itach.
By this way i can design as many remote controls as i want and control many itach devices on the same network remotely.
