I am looking for a way to open up my garage door away from home. Say my mother stopped by when no one was home and she needed to get into house. I would like to beable to use my phone to log in to something and open the garage door over the internet. I prewired 2 cat5e cables from my garage door opener to the control room in my basement. I was lookinng into Irule and total control a bit and using the Itach. thanks

What you would need to do is first set up an IP2CC iTach unit at your garage door opener. One relay would be required to control the contact closure that triggers the garage door (the button). From there, what you would need to do is forward the command port (TCP port 4998) of your iTach unit to your router. Once forwarded, your unit will be accessible from the internet. Once you know the public IP address of your router, all you would need to do is send a macro to momentarily close the contact of your unit, pressing the button and triggering the garage door motor. iRule does have the ability to control units from the 3G network, so this should be no problem.

In my case, my garage door opener has three buttons ( up, stop and down ). Is that meaning I have to connect IP2CC one relay with one button independently?
If each button is a different button interface, you will need to use a single contact for each one. There is a possibility that the garage door interface uses a trick and does not actually use three different interfaces, but essentially what you need to do either way is emulate what happens when the button is pressed (likely by momentarily closing the relay on our unit).
I just wanted to expand on this topic. I'm interested in hooking my garage door into my automation system. I'm very familiar with using iTachs for IR control but never for contact closure before. I've purchased the iTach CC and now want to install it. What other "parts" do I need to hook this into the garage door opener? Do you have wiring diagrams or anymore tech info on using contact closures?
A garage door opener is simply a contact which is closed when the button is pressed. Essentially, all you will need to do is tee into the two wires that are used as the trigger for the garage door, such that when the contact is closed, continuity between the two lines is made. No other parts are necessary, only a small junction into the two wires that run to the garage door button. Currently, we do not have any wiring diagrams that would be relevant to this, but this should be relatively simple for you to set up.

I am late to this discussion, but hopefully someone can help.
I can imagine hooking up the relay will be simple enough, but other products from home automation mgr's come with sensors that:
-determine if the door has been left open
-tell it when to stop when it is being opened
How would this be accomplished with an iTach setup, or are we relying on some sort of built in auto-stop feature in the garage door opener?
