WF2IR: Trouble receiving IR signals

Hi,

I've configured this unit & confirmed connection to my Network using the iHelp application. However I'm having zero success getting iLearn to receive any IR commands. When starting up the iLearn app I select "iTach Learner" from the drop down, type in my IP address & it successfully connects. However no matter what distance, angle, number/length of button presses or brand of remote I use - I just can't get it to acknowlege any signals. I'm pointing the remotes at the very small hole near the power connector as described.

Any ideas?

  ps. Further to above. I have tried hitting the disconnect button followed by connect, then tried learning again to see if this would help. After trying this several times it made no difference.

  Something you will want to make sure of is that the LED on your remote is lined up properly with the small hole on the unit. Also, a good way to learn is first by holding the unit in your left hand, with the faceplates facing you, and rotating the unit to the left 90 degrees until the learner hole is oriented at the top of the black faceplate. From there, hold your remote a few inches away from the learner access hole and press a button. If you continue to have no success getting this working let us know and we will go through some troubleshooting steps with to you see what is causing the problem.

  It does work but I also have big problems with positioning remotes for that small hole. Some off my remotes can not reach that hole at all in one way or another. I solved this to open the house of the WF2IR so I can send it from above. That works for me but it is not a good design if customers have to do this kind of things.

  This is the second design error I found after the difficult setup from the topic "WF2IR Setup Problems" on http://globalcache.zendesk.com/entries/400364-wf2ir-setup-problems#overview What is the status of this topic, are there any updates yet almost after one year?

  It is unfortunate that you were forced to open your enclosure in order to learn your IR commands, and we apologize for the inconvenience. The implementation of the learner diode has been a topic of discussion as we move forward with new designs and products, and is currently being addressed by our engineering and design team.

  Currently, all known connection related interaction issues which can be dealt with by our firmware are fixed, including fixes for all fixable improper router implementations. All currently known problems are related to improper router implementation of 802.11b support, sometimes requiring 802.11b only mode, and sometimes preventing units from connecting due to a lack of 802.11b network negotiation on the router. Depending upon the implementation of the router firmware, sometimes changing settings (i.e. static IP address) will handle the problem.

  Is there or will there be an external IR receiver for the WF2IR so I do not need to open the box anymore because of the very small not working hole to learn IR comments to iLearn?

  Currently there is no separate IR receiver which works with the iTach product line. Something that can help is that there is a very clean way to learn with the iTach product line. By simply rotating the unit so that it sits on its side, the learner hole is oriented such that it is above the power connector and is easily accessible. From there, align your remote diode with the learning hole anywhere between 2 and 6 inches away and you should have no issue learning. If you continue to have issues, you should check to see if there is any debris blocking the IR learning hole. We apologize for the problems you have been having, so feel free to get in touch with us if you continue to have problems so that we can troubleshoot directly and possibly replace the unit you have if you are having excessive issue getting your unit to learn your IR codes.

  I've tried it, holding the WF2IR in all kind of directions en positions but nothing helps. Opening the unit and do the work from above works very well but is not meant by design. The WF2IR works great but when I need to learn something new (and that must in a couple of months for my new television) I have to open it again because of the pore design around the learning IR LED and the small hole.

  Well I hope (and some others I guess too who are told here have troubles with the learning because of this issue) that there will come an external IR learning LED for the WF2IR to fix this. And for the future users a better design so they don't need to do the work as I and a couple of others here on the forum told by opening the WF2IR.

  I guess there is still no external learn module after 4 years? So I modified my WF2IR myself. Take the IR receiver from the board and connected it to wires. The wires connected to the board. Make a bigger hole (1.5 x 1.5 cm) at the top of the box. Now it work fine and always. That the engineers from Global Cache could not think about this. IR receivers in A/V equipment have also holes with a dimension of at least 1 x 1 cm.

  With the Flex products, the IR learning diode is placed in an open recess on top of the device that allows for greater access for sending IR codes.
