First of all I was having troubles connecting the WF2IR to my WPA2 network, but this seems like a known problem. I'll get to that later.
However, as it currently does not connect properly I need to reset it in order to reach the setup page. But putting a pin in the reset hole doesn't do anything. The device starts blinking, as it should. But the original ad-hoc network never appears. It does not seem to reset. What should I do?
If the LEDs on the device do flash when the pin or paperclip is used then the unit is being defaulted. After the default, you will need to wait until the power LED begins cycling on and off, once per second, which is when the adhoc network begins being broadcast. If this does not happen, let us know and we will make sure that you have a fully functioning unit. In regards to WPA2 encryption, there are currently only a few routers with problems with our wireless units, and none of them have a problem with the WPA family of encryption. So long as you are able to recover your unit, you should be able to get your unit connected to your network without much problem.

However, trying to reset it does not work. It does not blink once a second and does not broadcast the ad-hoc network.

When not located in the US, your best option would be to do your return through your distributor. This will prevent you from having to ship anything overseas to our facilities.
As a side note, if your default process does not work, make sure that you are using an electrically active pin. For example, a paperclip with a plastic sheath on the outside will not be able to default our units. My guess would be that if you could get the unit to default properly, the adhoc network would begin to broadcast shortly after.
I finally got it to reset, I moved it to another room far away from my router and it suddenly wanted to reset. But it does not connect to my router yet. I've tried all possible settings, from DHPC to static IP, from WPA2 to opening up my network. And yes, the device is close enough to my router.
Router is 802.11b/g/n
SSID is broadcasted
settings are written correctly on the device, ie. case sensitive
The router has no setting for using only 802.11b mode.
What should I do now?
The best approach for something like this is to eliminate variables. The first you should eliminate from the setup is security. If the unit connects without security, then you can isolate your security type as the problem. If the unit does not connect, then you will want to take screen captures of your router config pages so that we can see if there is something we notice that may affect connectivity. Also, you may want to quickly cycle through other types of security to see if the problem resides with just one type or not.
What is the model of your router? There is a possibility that your router does not properly implement 802.11b mixed mode to specifications. We have found some routers which do not properly implement the mixed mode, sometimes only affecting certain security types. This is why we recommend changing over to a B-only mode, as this circumvents the improperly implemented mixed mode.
After going through all of the above steps recommended by Josh. I drove to a remote area, surrounded by cornfields, with the ACtoUSB powering the WiFi to Serial I was still unable to factory reset the device.
Josh and I had worked on resetting the devices on another occasion and after much troubleshooting, I was able to walk outside (away from the router) and get them to reset. On this most recent occasion, and unfortunately the same customer as before, I was unable to restore the device. However, I was able to restore the WiFi to IR by stepping outside. Faulty WiFi to Serial is what I'm thinking at this point. Either way, both devices are falling off the network and their broadcasting is being halted.
Little weary on using these devices on future projects.

im with the same issue, but cannot reset modem, i also go to the street connected to my sierra (electrical energy) and does not reset, i have 1 year with the unit stored and now that i want to use it, wont work, please help me

I reseted my wf2ir! I try to reset may be 300 times or more! During 24 hours. But I found solution!
1. You realy need area w/o any strong wifi network.
2. Take antenna in you hand for isolation from any wifi.
3. Made 5 times fast reset. 3 second push and 2 seconds release. (when 3 led blinking)
4. Made 5 times slow reset. 3 second push and 5 second release. (when 1 led light)
5. Wait for 1 min.
6. Alliluya!
