Trouble with Sony Receiver Stand-by command

I have had my WF2IR for 3 weeks now and love it.  I captured my 6 remotes, all work great but one command.  My Sony Audio/Video Control Center (aka receiver) model STR-DE635 came with a remote which has an AV on/off button and a System Standby button.  I have a working code captured for the AV on/off button but that just turns on/off the equipment plugged into the back of the Sony unit.  

It's the System Standby button that turns off the Sony receiver, and it is this button which I cannot capture a valid code. I need this button in order to turn OFF the receiver.  I don't need this code to turn the receiver on because the unit will turn on when you press one of the inputs on the remote (i.e. Video1, Video2,...,DVD, CD, TV).

Any ideas why this is happening and how do I get around it?

  Sony has a bit of a tricky IR command syntax which is likely at fault here. When capturing the command, you will want to hold the button for a relatively long press to make sure that you capture enough data. From there, Sony syntax requires use of 3 gaps in most cases, even though the lines of code are identical. Let me know if that does not work, and we can go from there.

  Ok, I was able to capture a command that worked!  I captured about 4 which looked reasonable and had three gaps until I captured one that worked.  The ones where the lines ended around 1000 didn't work, but the one where the lines ended around 859 worked.  Thanks for you help Josh!

  Same problem with a customers dn1000. I pulled the plastic cover off. The ir is located approx 1 1/2 inches to the right and slightly lower than the white indicator. This certainly helped, but the real problem was the autotrim being on during my capture process. Turn off the trim and your good.

  I'm having a similar problem, though not with the standby button (but only because I found this post.) I have a Sony SRT-AV770 receiver, and a Sony CDP-C325 5-CD changer. The remote for the receiver has buttons to change the input, but the CD button is also PLAY for the CD player. When you hit the button, it changes the input to CD on the receiver, then the CD starts playing. I've captured the command several times, and it looks ok, but when I play it back through the iTach using the SENDIR command, the only action is that the CD starts playing. The input does not change on the receiver.

  Any suggestions on how to capture the entire string? Someone above suggested that autotrim might be a problem, but I can'f figure out how to turn that off to give it a try.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  Well, interesting. I changed the capture to be 4 gaps and use an offset of 5 (just trying different settings) and moved the remote further away from the learner. When pressing the button, i would see 2 discrete commands sent to the learner. What seemed to have worked is that I pushed the button, waited for the first code to be "learned" then pointed the remote in the opposite direction, so as to not to over-write the code that was already learned. It appears to have worked, as sending the IR signal now changes the receiver to the CD setting (without starting the CD on play, a bonus.)

  Not sure if the change to the GAPS settings and Offset made the difference, or if it was just being quick enough to move the remote before the second code was sent. I'd still like to understand why this works like this, and if I did the right thing or not.

  It looks as though there are two commands coming through (or a two-step single command), and the extraneous Gaps were used for the second portion of the command data. By saving more data, you were able to get both commands working. The change of the Offset likely did not affect the setup, as this setting only affects iterations of the command sent after the first iteration (created by increasing the repeat count).
